What is line? Research

Bill Atkinson- Nature Photographer

His Photography show close ups of nature and the lines and patterns created through cracks in rocks, rock layers, sand dunes, tree roots, flowers and water. I love the hightened contrasts pushing out the divisions of line and shape and the use of saturated colours. The close up shots make the images abstract and become beautiful artworks.

Images showing our forces onto nature to put them into formations-
planting seeds in lines, shaping hedges, creating divisions in fields through fences, walls, roads and hedges.

What is Line? Images & Final Piece

Recording a journey- Roundhay Park

I have made a quick map on illustrator showing the route which i will take and showing the shapes in the fields, trees, lakes and the route

Here are a selection of photographs from my walk

I would like to incorporate some of the photographs into the map above to make an illustrative, visually engaging map for anyone who would like to follow my walk.
I have created packaging for the map in the form of a nature journal

What is Line? -Proposal

Brief
I have chosen the definition, 'a formation of people objects or things besides behind or in front of each other'. I would like to investigate lines and formation within nature

Who needs to know
People who like nature, nature walks, comparing natural and manmade and asymmetric designs.

What do they need to know
I will show how even natural things grow in formations and lines, whether it is in their shape, texture or movement. I will also show how we force formations and lines onto natural things.

Why do they need to know
Because it allows them to see structure in nature

What will they respond to
I will produce a book of extensive research including photographs, samples, drawings showing investigations of shape, line, colour and medium. I would like to create a final piece or possibly a nature journal to display my findings

What research is required?
an extensive collection of photographs, drawings, samples for primary research and imagery from other designers for secondary research

Noriko Ambe
Noriko Ambe uses books of art to develop art from, the image above is a catalogue of work by Damien Hirst that he has hand cut through the pages to create a colourful layering and pattern of papers.

This piece he uses a book of work by ed ruscha to create a sense of a liquid deconstruction.

Hotdog folds- experimentation

The Letter A, Hotdog fold book

It took me a long time to come up with an idea for the book, at first i was going to make a illustrative alphabet book but i thought this idea was over used and wanted something that i'd enjoy. Instead i have decided to create a book called ..A is for 'antiques'. i have chosen this as it is something that i like and will find interesting to create a book. also it reflects my interests and my style of working which will be beneficial as i am selling the books to people that have not seen my work before.

I would like the books to be a mixture of illustrations and images, i will think carefully about colour and materials used.
